This is Fresh Digs - home of the Effingham area's only locally owned retailer of new/handmade/vintage home decor, furniture and gifts. Plus custom services such as furniture painting and upholstery are offered, as well as consultations, classes and events.
You’ll find name brands such as Illume soy candles, ban.do, Rifle Paper, Tag, Emily McDowell and more plus a range of curated local artisan and handmade products.
To see our products head to our Facebook or Instagram feeds. And yes, I ship; simply email me and I’ll get that taken care of. On this website click the Classes or Events tab to see what's happening in the shop and around the area. Lastly, check out our blog, What's Inside, to catch a beautiful glimpse of local, Midwestern life.
If you've not been in the shop here's a quick rundown of who's behind it. I, Joanna Davies, opened Fresh Digs in 2014. Since Effingham is a smallish town, the idea was to create a shopping experience that you'd previously have had to travel outside of Effingham to get. The goal was to offer our local community the ability to touch and see in person what they're buying PLUS have the option to spend their retail dollars in our community all while receiving personal customer service.
I am pleased to offer over twenty locally made items from furniture to decor items to jewelry to soaps and more. So many "made in China" wholesale goods could easily be made here by a local artist who enjoys and excels at a certain craft. This reduces waste by eliminating the need for packaging materials as well as reducing emissions associated with transport. Plus, supporting a local maker all while keeping our money in our community is a win-win all around.
My goal is to get Fresh Digs to a point where a majority of products are either locally made, handmade or Fairtrade.
Come in sometime. The shop is separated into the main room where you'll find mostly new, locally made home decor, furniture and gift items as well as a few vintage pieces mixed in. Through the main room you can walk into The Backroom where you'll find many different vintage eras represented in clothing, wall art, decor, jewelry, lighting and furniture. And don't forget to check out the Sale Room down the hallway on the left-hand side of the main room. It is always rotating and you can find items that are up to 75% off.
Feel free to ask for a drink or dining recommendation while in town. I love to talk about food. : )
